A couple is suing the airline JetBlue for $1 million after a block of ice the “size of a watermelon” crashed through their ceiling.
In early January 2025, couple Michael Reese and Leah Ferrarini filed a lawsuit against JetBlue, claiming that a huge chunk of ice fell through the ceiling of their bedroom in January of the previous year.
According to the document, frozen debris fell from a JetBlue Airbus A321 while flying over the couple’s home in Inglewood, during a flight from Los Angeles to New York.
The “watermelon-sized” block of ice reportedly fell “directly onto the bed.” Firefighters and police responded to the scene after the incident. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation.
Reese and Ferrarini are considering “moving out of their dream home because they no longer feel safe there,” according to the complaint. They are seeking $1 million for emotional distress, inconvenience, pain, medical expenses, and property damage.
The investigation revealed that the aircraft had a history of six months of malfunctions and was suspected of dropping ice on a house in Massachusetts in 2023.
JetBlue denied responsibility and stated that its actions were in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
